Scottsdale or Phoenix or both!!!

Hi,

I%26#39;m trying to plan a trip over in Sept / Oct time, for a week, and would appreciate some advice on where to stay and the must do things!

We dont really want to drive, we arent ';laying by the pool'; people and like to be able to go shopping, be close to lots of resturants and be able to reach most touristy areas/attractions - dont mind if that means booking trips - horse riding is a must whilst we are visiting but other than that we are open to suggestions!

thanks

Scottsdale or Phoenix or both!!!

It%26#39;s hard to tell where PHX ends and Scottsdale begins as they are contiguous. But Scottsdale is mostly newer and more upscale and closer to the perimeter. Best shopping would be in Scottsdale.

Personally, I%26#39;d skip them both and head north to the Grand Canyon NP and Sedona.

Scottsdale or Phoenix or both!!!

I was gonna say Scottsdale before even reading this, but after, definitely Scottsdale...

Almost Everything tourist in Scottsdale is on Scottsdale Road and buses come quite frequently compared to Phoenix. You may not need a car the whole time, but it might be wise to rent one at some point for trip excursions. Different parts of Phoenix are beautiful, but some parts are a bit dangerous, think places like Peckham, almost all of Scottsdale is very safe, unless you get drunk and start fights in the bar. And while both cities have great dining, in Scottsdale they are right next to each other, if you dont like one menu you can move right on to the next restaurant, in Phoenix, you%26#39;d most likely be driving a lot more. The valley is great, and my home for the last two years, hope you love it and have a great time!

......my vote Scottsdale........for shopping and touristy area/attractions, consider old scottsdale area, Fashion square is near as many restraunts and accomodation depending on your budget.Old Scottsdale has amazing art galleries, and on Thurs eve (I believe it;s still Thurs)they have the art walk and the galleries remain open often serving refreshments.

Horseback riding is available many places, upon arrival at the airport are many magazines to retrieve which will have destinations and maps.

Indeed Sedona and GC offer breathtaking sights and excursions.....alot of driving involved and shopping is minimal......except for exquisite art and jewlery.

You will love Arizona! Sept/Oct my favorite time of year.

Based on what you provided, I%26#39;d suggest somewhere in either Phoenix or Tempe close to the light rail line.

It is difficult to get around the area without a vehicle. Especially if you want to do a daytrip to Sedona.

Old Town Scottsdale is the best bet. Lots of charm. Lots of shops, clubs and restaurants within walking distance.

There%26#39;s a ';W'; Hotel, Valley Ho, Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard by Marriot and the Mondrian.

You should go to Sedona, at least for a day or two. You can%26#39;t come all this way and miss that.

Wow, thanks for all your replies...Scottsdale it is then!!

Just need to decide on a hotel and see if we can get and a decent deal on the flights!
