yavapi lodge

Hi we are staying overnight in yavapi lodge 24th april, where will be the best place to go to see the sunrise and sunset, any idea what time the sunrise will be, and will we have to drive there or can we walk there, depending on how long to get there and what time. i know the yavapi is not that close to the rim.

thanks

The sunrise and sunset times are on the park%26#39;s webpage:

nps.gov/grca/…sunrise_set_moon.htm

It should be around 5:45 am.

There is a trail leading from Yavapai area right to the rim trial in a quiet area; a good place from which to enjoy the sunrise. You will see this trail on the map you will be given at the park. You cross parking lot ';A'; near park headquarters (across the main road from Yavapai) and pick up the trail. It leads past Mather Amphitheater right to the rim. It is less than 1/2 mile from Yavapai out to the rim, but you%26#39;ll need a flashlight (torch) as there are no lights. And dress warmly---it is very cold in the early morning.

We like to sit and watch the sun creep down the canyon walls and bring the colors to life for 20 minutes or so, from a point near this spot. You may see deer or elk on your walk.
