Your suggestions please for May Sedona trip

DH and I have just decided to add a trip to Sedona onto his upcoming business travel to Vegas in May. We will fly into Phoenix on Friday May 15 arriving around 5:30 pm and pick up a rental car.

We have hotel currently reserved for three nights at Kings Ransom (thanks for the heads up on the $99/night offer I found on this forum, we reserved a %26#39;trailhead%26#39; room).

We will leave Sedona on Monday the 18th and drive toward Vegas--any plan is fine as long as we get into Vegas by evening.

What should we check out during our 2+ day stay? We would like to hike both days (say up to an 8 mile RT hike). Not yet convinced about the Pink Jeep tour. We are considering a hot air balloon trip.

What could we see on our way from Phoenix considering our dinnertime arrival? And what should we target between Sedona and Vegas?

We have been to the GC on a separate trip and are not thinking of including that on this trip.

Neither of us has been to Sedona before. I love SW food!

Hi,

Thank you for visiting our beautiful part of the U.S. we appreciate your traveling.

Driving from Phoenix to Sedona is about a 2 hour drive and if you are not leaving Phoenix until 5:30 p.m. you will not have a chance to stop at Montezuma Castle National Monument, Bell Rock or Chapel of the Holy Cross, the usual stops on the trip from Phoenix to Sedona.

Here%26#39;s the official Sedona visitors web site for lots of information about Sedona: http://www.visitsedona.com/ This will give you help in planning your dining experiences and other attractions.

Hiking is one of my favorite activities in Sedona as there%26#39;s so many trails of all type of difficulty and scenery. I have found the best information about all the trails at the Coconino National Forests web site on trail information: fs.fed.us/r3/…rec_redrock.shtml

You can make up your mind about jeep tour once you arrive and get the lay of the land!

The drive from Sedona to Las Vegas will be more interesting if you drive from Sedona to Cottonwood then up to the ghost town of Jerome, then over to Prescott on Hwy #89. From Prescott you can either travel north on #89 to I-40 or continue West on #89 to Hwy #93 and travel north on 93 to Kingman and into Las Vegas. These routes will give you some interesting scenery as well as some interesting places to visit enroute. Enjoy your trip!

Here is a website about hikes that we found useful planning our trip: http://www.greatsedonahikes.com/ We liked this particular website because it had many photos.

Have a great trip!

You%26#39;ll be arriving in Sedona after dark so expect a huge surprise when you wake up and look outside in the morning. That will be around 4AM if you plan to do a balloon flight. I%26#39;d skip that in favor a jeep tour though. Pink Jeep Broken Arrow is the most popular and a much better investment of your time and money in Sedona IMO.

If you love southwest food, have dinner on Saturday night at Elote cafe right there at Kings Ransom. Then enjoy the Silver Saddle at the Cowboy Club on Sunday night.

You%26#39;ve been given the best direction for hiking info already. Don%26#39;t miss a visit to the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the help! Especially for the advice about the Sedona to Vegas route; we will definitely go that way and check out the sights.

I%26#39;ve been looking at those hiking links too. Does anyone have a favorite hike of the 8 mi RT length? There seem to be SO many possibilities--hard to choose. Maybe should we ';Pink Jeep'; and then get a feel for what we would like to hike after that?

We will definitely eat at Elote, it sounds fabulous. Maybe even twice. :)
