Hello all...
Looking forward to getting to Sedona next weekend (Feb 9 %26amp; 10).
We have reservations at Los Posadas. Here is what I%26#39;m thinking but looking for advise....as we come in Saturday around noon - either head up to Oak Creek Brewery or Olde Sedona Bar and Grill.....looking for something very casual...then we want to head over to Airport Mesa for sunset. Is that doable and a good idea?
Sunday - will want to do some trails....Probably get started at 9ish - I need to get more acquainted with the area but where do you suggest we start? Once we are there / should we bring snacks or is there places along the way? Then I was thinking maybe Shugure for dinner...thoughts?
Monday - we will be heading back to Phoenix but we don%26#39;t need to be there until 10pm. So we could do some hiking this day as well and sample some local cusine.
Suggestions for places to eat or hang out. More on the casual side and preferrably something that is not too far off the path and something the local recommend without being too far off the beaten path.
We love mexican (is Javeline Cantina a fast food place?) or low key bar type places...and seafood (that is why I thought Shugrue).
Thanks for your recommendations.
Thoughts on this itinerary
Airport Mesa is a great place to go watch the sunset (you might want to check sunset time on the internet to be sure you are there before sunset). The sun setting on the red rocks is beautiful. You should be there about a half hour before actual sunset time. That is, if we have sun! :-) Today there%26#39;s a storm here with some snow. But I think it%26#39;s supposed to be nice starting Tuesday for several days.
I like the food at Olde Sedona Bar %26amp; Grill. Haven%26#39;t been to Oak Creek Brewery in a very long time. Try checking restaurant reviews on this forum. Click on the restaurants on the left side of the webpage.
I suggest going to the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center in Uptown Sedona when you first get here. They can give you a map with hiking trails and give you some suggestions. There are so many trail choices here!
We have a couple regular supermarkets and a couple mini-marts at gas stations, so you%26#39;ll have no problem grabbing some snacks.
If you get here around noon, you%26#39;ll have time to eat, visit the Visitors Center and get to Airport Mesa. Sedona is a small town. It%26#39;s a short drive between places.
Shugrue%26#39;s is a nicer, more expensive place to eat. You can dress casually pretty much anyplace in Sedona. Just know that it is higher end. Again check the reviews on this forum. Javelina Cantina is a regular restaurant (not fast food). Very good and has a bar. You%26#39;ve already picked some good restaurants. You might want to try Pizza Picasso%26#39;s....not your ordinary pizza, very popular place. Then there%26#39;s On The Rocks Bar %26amp; Grille in Los Abrigados Resort. Good food in sort of a nicer sports bar type atmosphere.
While you%26#39;re here you won%26#39;t want to miss Chapel of the Holy Cross, a popular viewpoint and architectural wonder. Also for some more awesome views drive along Upper Red Rock Loop Road. And if you have time, definitely take a drive up Oak Creek Canyon. You also might want to take a Pink Jeep Broken Arrow Tour.....verrrry popular on this forum.
I hope this helps. Have a great time!

A couple more things.......
Here%26#39;s a link to a map of hiking trails:
www.redrockcountry.org/maps/index.shtml
And make sure you buy a Red Rock Pass, required for parking at most trailheads:
www.redrockcountry.org/passes-and-permits
Thank you so much for the feedback....
Think Pizza Picasso is the best walk in food in town right now.
For hiking, try the Dry Creek Rd. trails.
Devils Bridge
Boyton Canyon
Doe Mtn.
depending on the weather( they all face differently, and different amounts of shade.)
For the Afternoon, add Palatki and Honaki Ruins. Better light then.
On the way back to Phx, stop at Montezuma Castle, or go through Prescott- longer drive, but terrific sights.
