My husband and I will be celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary on March 30th at the end of our travels in Arizona. We would like to spend that evening in a picturesque small town within a half day%26#39;s drive of Phoenix. We will be approaching Phoenix from the east on Route 60 from Springerville. Any suggestions for a town, hotel, and restaurant would be greatly appreciated. After that many years together, we think we deserve a very special evening! Thanks.
45 th Wedding Anniversary!
Congratulations on your 45th anniversary! If you were staying in Phoenix, I would suggest the Royal Palms Resort, and eating at their restaurant, T.Cook%26#39;s. However, you said you wanted a small town, so...I would suggest Sedona, definitely. Any town smaller than that, and you might not get the selection and quality of restaurants and lodging.
There are many resorts, inns, and B%26amp;Bs to choose from in Sedona, but I%26#39;d suggest the Enchantment Resort. You could splurge on a nice suite, though even their regular rooms are quite lovely, and either have dinner on site, or in Sedona. The Enchantment Resort itself is tucked away a bit outside of Sedona, in a gorgeous location within the red rocks. Have a wonderful time!
45 th Wedding Anniversary!
If you%26#39;re heading west on 60 into the Phoenix area, the main towns you%26#39;ll go through are Showlow and Globe, but those aren%26#39;t exactly ideal or romantic places to be. Why not just spend the night in Scottsdale/Phoenix, at a beautiful resort like the Royal Palms, Phoenician, Four Seasons, etc.? Sedona would be beautiful, but it%26#39;s not on the way, at all. It%26#39;s about a 3.5 hour drive NE of where you%26#39;re coming from, and then it would be another 1.5-2 hours back to Phoenix from Sedona.
Of course you deserve a special evening - Congratulations! 45 years is amazing. Is there a special reason why you said ';We would like to spend that evening in a picturesque small town within a half day%26#39;s drive of Phoenix.'; Is it because you don%26#39;t want to drive all the way to Phoenix that day or another reason? It would help with our responses.
Well, if you want small town, try Heber-Overgaard and the Mogollon Resort Cabins. The cabins are delightful and have their own website with virtual tours available. These cabins have all the facilities needed. We spend our Thanksgiving up there every year. March might be a little chillier than November though. The drive is quite scenic and you may see elk.
As far as restaurants, there is a nice restaurant across the street at Bison Ranch. Otherwise, you probably should call and ask the front desk what they recommend. Now, this is small town, nothing fancy.
It%26#39;s also in the general area through which you could return to Phoenix. Take the 60 from Springerville to Show Low and on to Heber-Overgaard. Take the 260 to Payson, and take 87 to the east side of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
You didn%26#39;t state where in Phoenix you were going, but you can check your map from here.
Hope this helps!
I must nominate Sedona for you also. If you have never been it%26#39;s a must for a visit to Arizona anyway. But you want picturesque and you can%26#39;t get much better than Sedona and the red rocks.
I highly recommend for a fabulously romantic dinner Dahl and Delucca in Sedona. Be sure to have reservations however. The ceiling is painted with angels and the lighting is just wonderful. The Italian food is fabulous also. It%26#39;s where my husband and I celebrate our anniversary almost every year.
The absolute best and most romantic place to stay in Sedona is a cabin on the creek at L%26#39;Auberge. This is undoubtedly the most romantic place. Their French restaurant will serve you breakfast right on the creek with the ducks splashing by.
That would be my perfect anniversary night for you!
Congratulations!
Thank you for your responses to my request. Based on the information you provided, we decided to reverse the direction of our route so we can spend our anniversary in Sedona. We set out from Phoenix this morning, and are spending the nite in Globe. Thanks again for your suggestions. By the way, we live in Canada on the Atlantic coast, and are absolutely loving the scenery we%26#39;ve seen so far on our Arizona adventure. It%26#39;s so very different from what we%26#39;re used to in Nova Scotia.
.........Love Nova Scotia, is so lovely and slow paced, was there last year visiting our daughter who attends school.
I second the cabin%26#39;s at L%26#39;auberge, the cabins are along the valley, so beautiful and tranquil. The rest is over the top, your husband does need a sport jacket, or they will provide you with one.
Last year for New Years, we stayed at Adobe Grand Villas, gorgeous!, Breakfast included which was awsome!
Enjoy and happy 45th!
