Restaurant suggestions for Mexican and steakhouses??

I need some suggestions for local/authentic restaurants for a weekend coming up.

We are staying in downtown Phoenix and are looking for something not too expensive.

We would love to hit an authentic western/cowboy type steakhouse and a local style Mexican spot.

Any suggestions???

Carolina%26#39;s and Los Dos Molinos would be great for Mexican near downtown. Very authentic, cheap and delicious.

While not an authentic cowboy steakhouse, a fun place near downtown would be Rustler%26#39;s Roost.

If you care to venture north try Greasewood Flat/Riata Pass Steakhouse or Pinnacle Peak Patio. I particularly like GF - outside patio with music, old picnic table, dancing, bonfires.

Restaurant suggestions for Mexican and steakhouses??

Hi,

Thank you for traveling to our beautiful city, we appreciate all of you who choose to spend time and investigate all we have to offer.

I presume you will have a vehicle to get around as our city is quite spread out and some of the places you will want to try for authentic western/cowboy type steakhouses and local Mexican restaurants are not right downtown Phoenix.

We do have a Mexican restaurant that is a local favorite and always gets good reviews - Carolina%26#39;s Mexican Food, 1202 E. Mohave, Phoenix. This is not a very good neighborhood, however, their food is authentic, inexpensive and they always get great reviews. You will not be disappointed!

If you do not have a car, you can walk to the Matador Restaurant, 125 E. Adams, Phoenix. The Matador has been serving authentic Mexican food in Phoenix for 25 years and is also a good choice.

Another Mexican restaurant close to downtown Phoenix that is also getting great reviews is the Barrio Cafe, 2814 N. 16th St., Phoenix.

My personal favorite is the El Bravo

8338 N. Seventh St., Phoenix. They have also won numerous awards for their authentic Sonoran Mexican style food.

Cowboy steakhouses:

We have many fine steakhouses in the Phoenix Metro area. Among these, some are also cowboy western style ambiance.

T-Bone Steakhouse, 10037 S 19th Ave, Phoenix, at the base of South Mountain, is very rustic and has great views of Phoenix. Make sure you have a good map as it is not the easiest to find.

Two of the cowboy steakhouses that have been doing great business for years and bring in the tourists by the bus loads are the Pinnacle Peak Patio, 10426 E. Jomax Road, Scottsdale, AZ and the Reata Pass Steakhouse, 27500 N. Alma School Parkway, Scottsdale.

Both of these are an icon in the Phoenix area. I have lived in Phoenix for 40 years and they were here when I moved to Phoenix.

There%26#39;s also some other great steakhouses and Mexican restaurants in the Phoenix metro area that are probably as good or better in some areas of their menu, however, these are the real deal!

Once again, great advice Mr. Tourguy. I can%26#39;t add much to that list except that Barrio Cafe is now officially at the top of my list. I would have suggested Sierra Bonita (7th St. %26amp; Glendale)as well, but I think that qualifies more as a modern Mexican vs. authentic.

Another rave for Barrio Cafe. It%26#39;s not the ';local style'; Mexican spot you%26#39;re thinking of and might be on the high-end of your price range, but it%26#39;s definitely worth a visit for the amazing, authentic Mexican food. Los Dos Molinos is known for their incredibly spicy food, so if you like it really hot, you might want to check that out. Also, Tortas El Guerro gets great reviews, if you want to try an authentic tortas place. I don%26#39;t know of any good western/cowboy steakhouses, but Durant%26#39;s is an old-school steakhouse and Phoenix legend, deservedly so! The garlic rolls are so amazing and they%26#39;re known for the prime rib.

Carolinas is my favorite dive place. Been eating there for years....

yum!
