Scenic Airlines Canyon Odyssey - is the helicopter worth it

We are looking to do either the Scenic Airlines Canyon Connoisseur or Canyon Odyssey trip at the end of April and are trying to choose between them.

I have had some feedback on the Connoisseur but has anyone done the Odyssey trip (or even just a heicpter flight over the Grand Canyon National Park - not the west rim) and can say what they thought of the helicopter flight. Its an extra $85 or ￡60 to do the Odyssey so trying to decide if its worth the extra money.

I have done a helicopter flight above the GCNP at the South Rim. It is an enhancement to a GC experience. However, you are looking at a one day trip from Las Vegas that allows you barely 3 hours at the park on the ground. That in itself is not enough time IMO, and if you opt for the helicopter flight, your time on the ground will be even less.

If value is important to you, then you should seriously consider renting a car and driving to the GCNP on your own and spending a night there at one of the park lodges. It will cost you less than your flight tour and even if you add a helicopter flight, you%26#39;ll have more time to explore the GCNP and enjoy sunset and sunrise and so much more of what makes a GC experience what it should be.

Driving to the GCNP is not an option for us as I don%26#39;t travel very well in cars and I think the 4-5 hour journey would leave me feeling too rough to appreciate the canyon when we got there.

I have looked into it a bit and if we did the trip with the helicopter flight then we would not do the IMAX film which is available on the Connoisseur tour but our time on the ground actually exploring the park should be the same.

I guess it comes down to whether we should do the helicopter tour or watch the IMAX movie

Given that choice, I%26#39;d do the flight. Study the history and geology of the GC before you come for your visit. It will make everything you see and do more meaningful.
