Hi - I am flying from Heathrow to Phoenix in October/November on Boeing 747 with British Airways on World Traveller class (economy) can anyone tell me the best seats to travel in?

We have taken this flight twice and it always seems full so do use the seatguru site. Last time I ended up with the box for the entertainment under my seat which was no fun at all.

Some people advise you to book window and aisle seats on a 3-4-3 set up as if there are empty seats there is a reasonable chance that the middle seat might not get taken. If it is. you can politely ask the person to swap. Some airlines won%26#39;t allow you to do that so you might have to make two bookings - I am not sure about BA.

There is always building of some sort going on at Sky Harbour Airport so take care. Last year we saw many volunteers pointing people in the right direction.

That%26#39;s an interesting point from Adam about booking the aisle and a window seat hoping the middle one may not get taken.

I had never tried this before and on a flight last year we thought we%26#39;d give it a go (coincidentally, on the BA LHR-PHX route). We chose our (window and aisle) seats using the quick check-in terminals at the airport. It turns out the plane was full and when I got to the gate to board, the gate attendant simply told me my seat had been switched, she scribbled the new number on my boarding card and we had been given the window and middle seat. I suppose this is because the system recognised we booked our tickets together and so comes under the same booking reference.

Perhaps you may think it%26#39;s worth a gamble but those were about the last seats we would have chosen for that daytime flight.

Thanks for everyones replies - I did look at the seatguru site %26amp; I looked on the BA site but it was slightly different configuration BA said aircrafts could be laid out differently but could not tell me the best seats - therefore can anyone confirm if the seatguru site for Boeing 747 for travelling with BA from Heathrow/phoenix %26amp; back is the same as seatgurus diagram - the idea of leaving middle seat empty is good but do%26#39;es it work?

I suspect it will only work if the flight isn%26#39;t busy. We are trying the same thing for our flight to Seattle in October. The BA website has accepted our window and aisle request but I wouldn%26#39;t mind betting that we will get moved. We are back on the 21st so if that is before you depart I will let you know how we got on.

It%26#39;s also interesting to note that BA would not let us select the above average seats that Seatguru mentions.

Hi, 5ocus thats a fair number of travelling times - sounds like the ';leaving seat in the middle'; may not be viable for this flight - Could you advise the best seats for this flight? and what is the actual flight like? etc. as I have looked at review and the BA flight reviews are quite mixed - possibly a case of the ';luck of the draw'; so to speak

We have had a few problems with BA but they were always sorted straight away and were related to travelling with partially sighted %26amp; young children.

If you look on ba.com it has a plan of the aircraft to %26#39;request%26#39; seats - it is ONLY a request but there is a small section around row 25 or 27ish that is a nice little niche with very few people, you will be able to check in online 24hrs before - do that and then you can use the fast bag drop for check in. The flight is good, plenty of opportunity to walk around, food is always good, plenty of complimentary drinks and snacks etc.

The visa processing hall is quite hot so wear lighter clothing so you can debulk when you get off the plane. Put cameras etc in hand luggage and wear easily removable shoes coming home -they will be Xrayed. Phoenix is a really laid back and friendly place -you will love it.

How long does it take to go through the immigration/security/customs processing?

We are travelling 31 March via BA and the flight is full

Probably about half an hour at most to get through the processing line. They will give you the green and white forms to fill out on the plane. Luggage is usually on the belt waiting for you.
