Which resort would be better in July with teenagers and why? Which one has better access to area attractions? Thanks for any tips.
Pointe Squaw Peak versus Pointe Tapatio Cliffs?
They both just finished 20+ million dollar makeovers and offer very similar experiences. The water park at Squaw Peak is bigger, but both are great. They are also very close to each other (within 5 miles) and SP has a little quicker access to the 51 freeway. I think either one will suit your needs if they enjoy water/pools...and in July...they will need it! Plus both have all the other ammenities you would want in a resort. TC has a dude ranch experience next store, but you have to see if that is open in July.
Pointe Squaw Peak versus Pointe Tapatio Cliffs?
Does anyone else have any thoughts about these two? Restaurants, amenities, nightlife if any, etc.? I have read the Trip Advisor reviews and it seems to me Tapatio has the edge in the reviews although the steep hikes in the heat are not very appealing. The lazy river seems nice at SP but it seems like it is more for small children and pre-teens. Am I correct in my thinking?
Both are good properties, but Tapatio does have a lot of hills, as you mentioned.
I tend to gravitate toward Squaw Peak. It seems a bit closer to some of the better restaurants and shops. I don%26#39;t think the lazy river is for kiddies only. Every time I go to a water park, the teens are having a great time in the river.
As for attractions, it depends on what your teens like to do. In July, the locals like to A) hit the lake, B) go up north C) go to the local waterparks. These hotels arelady have ';C'; and the locations for ';A and B'; are not demonstrably different.
Now, if your teens like museums, etc., both Pointe properties are near a number of choices. If they like hiking, both locations are good. If they want to go to a baseball game, either location is fine. If they like horses, Tapatio is the better bet.
Tapatio is a better scene for teens. The water park is nice at Squaw but it is better for smaller kids. We stayed at both places and enjoyed both. But last year we went to Tapatio with our teenagers and were glad we did. The pool scene there is older and its connected to a very nice golf course that I used with my son. Closer to horseback riding too. People complain about the hills at Tapatio but as long as you do not have a disability they are no big deal. Both are fine but from experience with our kids, I think Tapatio is just better for teens and Squaw is better for preteens and little ones.
LOL, I must be a little kid at heart, b/c my husband and I love the lazy river! :)
IMHO, both resorts are equal as far as access to attractions is concerned - they are very close to each other, within a few miles.
Everything that has been said so far is true; you can also ask for a room in the main building at Tapatio if you don%26#39;t want to walk the hills. I have seen more teens playing volleyball in the pool at Tapatio, but I%26#39;ve also seen lots of teens enjoying the lazy river at Squaw Peak. I think it%26#39;s a toss-up, UNLESS you%26#39;re planning on being there during the July 4 weekend - then I would honestly say be warned about going to either one, b/c it gets crazy at both places during that holiday, service is awful, there%26#39;s drunk adults everywhere, etc. Otherwise, either resort would be fine.
There are also many posts on TA that discuss various aspects of both places; just do a search for Squaw Peak or Tapatio, then sort by date.
