Has anyone driven from LA to South Rim?

Hi all,

I know this is a really long drive, but unfortunately our itinery requires us to to drive it in one go. Like I say, I know it will take all day, but exactly how long? Google Earth says about 10 hours, a previous poster on this forum said 12 hours, just wondering has anyone actually done it and how long did it take?

P.s. It will be August and we will be taking minimal breaks.

hi

havent driven it in a day but have driven from la to vegas a couple of times and vegas to grand canyon south rim a couple of times

each %26#39;leg%26#39; is about 4-5 hours of easy driving (once you are out of la)and mostly thru pretty interesting scenery

if you real dont have time to stop over in vegas id ski p it altogether - a detour to drive the strip may be tempting but the strip can be busy and so you could put another hour onto the drive

its well worth it - the grand canyon is fantastic

We drove from San Diego to the South Rim in one day. We stopped along the way for picture op%26#39;s plus for a nice relaxation of dinner in Williams, Az. It is well worth the drive and easy driving once out of the traffic congestion in the cities. Enjoy your trip

Count on 8-9 hours from Lax to GC Village but only if traffic permits. We have done it faster but at highly illegal speed. The direct route from LA to GC is not via Las Vegas. Take I15 and I40 to Williams and az64 to GC.

Thank you for your replies guys, anything under 10 hours is fine, I was panicing a bit when I read 12 hours! Guess we%26#39;ll have to make sure we%26#39;ve olenty of good music in the car!
