We%26#39;re thinking of taking a trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon in late July or early August. What is the weather like at that time of year? Too hot? Would we be wiser to wait until October?
Weather in July/August
July and August is summer. At 4,500 -7,000 feet above sea level in the high desert that means highs in the day time from 80s-90s and no humidity. It%26#39;s probably nicer than what you%26#39;re used to in most parts of Canada. It%26#39;s also the monsoon, so the shift in wind patterns can often create brief violent and dramatic afternoon thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in short periods of time (usually 10-20 minutes) that are followed by flash floods from the run off and rainbows from the sunshine. Nights are cool and make for great sleeping weather. A/C is an option that I personally can live without all summer long. I use it in my car but not in my house.
In short, the weather in the summer in northern AZ is very nice and good for vacationing. October will be more moderate with fall qualities and it%26#39;s a delightful time to be in Sedona, but can be the beginning of winter at the GCNP.
Weather in July/August
While I enjoy the monsoons in August, I think the weather in October would be a little better.
TO add on to this, what is the weather like in mid-to-late March in both Sedona and the South Rim?
Last summer, my husband and I stayed three nights in Sedona and one night at the Grand Canyon in late August and had perfect weather. (Although the GC had heavy rains just before we got there.) We normally prefer to travel in the Fall, but decided to extend a trip to Santa Fe for a wedding in order to visit Sedona and GC and we%26#39;re so glad we did. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a wonderful trip no matter when you decide to go.
