Getting to GCNP from LA

We are on a busy schedule and would like to cut down on driving time. I also am a nervous flyer but have looked at the possibility of flying LAX to Flagstaff with Horizon Air then picking up hire-car and driving to Canyon. Can anyone tell me how reliable are the flights on this route, ie.do they run on time, feel safe and professional etc and also are the hire car places near to the airport in Flagstaff. Is this a big town? Does this sound like a feasible plan? We will be staying in Santa Monica so quite close to LAX I believe.

Getting to GCNP from LA

This is by far the easiest and fastest way to the Grand Canyon. Bus/train/car cannot come close. There are several rental companies at Flagstaff airport and it only takes 2 minutes to walk to them because it%26#39;s a small airport.

This flight is operated by turboprops (propeller planes) which unnerves some people because they are not used to flying in these aircraft, but they are just as safe as jets. Of course, there is no real cause for concern, as flying is by far the safest way to travel.

Getting to GCNP from LA

Missed a couple of words. Meant to say this is by far the easiest and fastest way to the Grand Canyon from LA. From other cities, flying to FLG can be impratical.

Also should note that the turboprops do tend to experience more turbulence than the larger jets. Usually it%26#39;s not a big deal, but in really bad weather it can be a minor discomfort.

Thank you for your re-assurance, I might still need some valium! Do you happen to know whether the flights tend to run on time also is Arizona prone to turbulent weather in July?

Horizon%26#39;s (Alaska Air) Flights from LAX to FLG are at 1:25 PM arr 3:05 PM and 7:30 PM arr 9:50 PM. There could be turbulence on the flight. Flagstaff is a small city of about 60,000 with about 140,000 living in its ';metro'; area.

With the late afternoon or evening arrival you would need to stay overnight in Flagstaff or near GCNP. The best experience is staying in the park. You can check on lodging at
