The Grand Canyon Airport is located in Tusayan, just outside of the GCNP. Flights originate from there and fly above the canyon for 30 or 50 minutes. Search this forum for posts by K-Bot. She has posted detailed information about the various providers and their aircraft. You can get all you need to know by reading her replies.

HI

Many thanks for your advice. As mentioned previously we have only one day in the canyon which I know is insufficent. We will be driving from Las Vegas to the GC but returning to kingman to cut the travelling time a little shorter. Could you pleae help with the itinery

- We would like to book a helicopter tour but not sure when is the best time for this

-Where would be the best view point in the park considering the time we will have there (approx 4-5 hours, allowing enought time for a helicopter trip)

- any advice on travel route from LV and then back to Kingman?

Many thanks once again for your advice so far

The recommended helicopter companies at GC Airport are Maverick and Papillon.

There%26#39;s really only one direct route between Las Vegas and GCNP: Hwy 93 south LV to Kingman AZ, I-40 east to Williams AZ, Hwy 64 north to GCNP.

It%26#39;s possible to bypass Hoover Dam if desired by going south from LV to Laughlin NV on Hwy 95, and then east to Kingman. It%26#39;s also possible to take a scenic bypass on old Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman or Ash Fork.

A very good suggestion to anyone planning such a trip: get a map!

Great. Thanks for the quick reply. That is the route we were planning to take from LV, but I have read previous post on the forum that suggest it might be worth taking Route 66 from Seligman to Kingman. How long extra do you think that would add onto our journey?

Also, we will be planning to leave LV at around 7.30am to 8am, assuming that it will take us around 5 hours to get to GC we will have around 4 hours at the GC to allow for us to take a teatime helicopter trip.

Can you advise which would be the best places to visit in GC bearing in mind our limited time there?

Also, can you please advise where is it be best to enter the park and park our car (we will be going to the canyon on Sunday 12/04, so I am not sure whether the park may be very busy?)

Many thanks once again.
