We plan to ride our Harley%26#39;s from Texas to Flagstaff the first week of September and plan to take several day trips to ride the parks and Route 66 while there. Does anyone have any favorite routes or restaurants to suggest? TIA.
Motorcycle routesI highly recommend driving through Wupatki/Sunset crater area give several hours for that. There%26#39;s a nice back route from Williams to Prescott/Jerome area. Called Perkinsville road. Try Beaver St Brewery in Flagstaff as well as Charlies on Leroux st you can eat outside at Charlies if weather is nice. In Williams check out Old Smokies for Breakfast/lunch and Pine Country for all and awesome pies.
I%26#39;d also check
www.arizonahighways.com
and do a search on their website.
Also
www.trails.com
is good you can get a 14 day free trial. They list all kinds of routes and side trips and hiking.
Also check out http://www.historic66.com/ its dedicated to RT 66.
www.azcentral.com
will have some suff twards the bottom of the page for drives ect....
Hope thats enough to get you started.
There%26#39;s also a Harley shop in Bellemont which is 10 minutes from Flagstaff going West on I-40 and a shop in Prescott. The one in Bellemont is a grill and mechanic shop as well.
Motorcycle routesBest remaining stretches are from Seligman to Kingman, Sitgreaves pass to Oatman and to Topock and into California along the abc hamlets like Goffs, Essex, Cadiz and Amboy to Barstow. But it%26#39;s not on your route I%26#39;m afraid.
Tet
The Perkinsville road is unpaved, and lots of gravel.
Wouldn%26#39;t recommend for a Harley.
Would suggest coming up from Truth or Consequences on the road to Silver City, then north either on the AZ or NM side. Az side is the old 666, and is 25 mph on curvy roads for 120 miles.! Amazing views and drive.
Lots of hotsprings around Silver City too.
The Loop from Flag, Ash Fork, down towards Prescott, and over the mountain thru our fair town of Jerome. Then back up through Sedona%26#39;s Oak Creek Canyon on 89a is a must drive.
If you head out to do Painted Desert/Petrified Forest, make sure you stop by the LaPosada in Winslow. Is an old Harvey House train station, and has the best Sangria, (and maybe food) in northern AZ. Cool old grounds, and most of the landscaping is finished on the route 66 side. Thats the backdoor, since this was setup as a train waypoint.
