We are planning a trip to the South Rim of Grand Canyon and Sedona area at the end of March flying to and from Vegas. Currently the plan is:
1 night - Las Vegas
2 nights - GC
1 night - Kayenta (visiting Monument Valley)
1 night - ?
2 nights - Sedona, then back to Vegas
Can%26#39;t decide whether to go to Canyon De Chelly and Petrified Forest/Painted Dessert on day #4 and stay overnight in Holbrook or Flagstaff, or go to Lake Powell instead to visit Antelope Canyon and do some water activities (in this case will stay overnight in Page).
Will it be too cold for boating in March? Will one night in Page give us enough time to visit Lake Powell? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Grand Canyon/Sedona itinerary help please
Hi and welcome aboard this forum.
Canyon de Chelly is great but will be a detour on your way to Sedona and your time is limited.
So my advice would be:
Day 1: Arrive Las Vegas
Day 2: Drive to GCNP south rim
Day 3: GCNP
Day 4: GCNP east rim and the drive to Kayenta. See MV.
Day 5: Leave Kayenta, drive to Page. Then first visit Antelope Canyon. It%26#39;s on az98 just before Page on your left. See Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.
Day 6: See Horseshoebend overlook (just south of Page along us89) before your drive to Sedona. (More places to see on this route)
Day 7: Sedona
Day 8: Drive back to Las Vegas

Grand Canyon/Sedona itinerary help please
Thank you for the fast response.
If we go to Page/Lake Powell, do you think we could visit both the Horseshoe bend and Antelope Canyon the same day en route from Kayenta to Page? We would really like to do something on the water (raft trip or powerboat rental or sightseeing tour) the next day before heading to Sedona. Do you think it%26#39;s feasable at the end of March and would you have any recommendations for operators/best places to rent. We will have a group of 9.
It%26#39;s an easy 2 hours drive from Kayenta to Page and you%26#39;ll gain one hour because Az does not observe daylight saving time. (You%26#39;ll loose one hour between GCNP and Kayenta because Navajo Nation and Utah are one hour later between march 9 and november 4 2008).
Just drive to the booth and pay your entrancefee for Navajo land ($ 6,-- pp). Park your car and book a tour at the end of the parkinglot ($ 20,-- pp). A 12 seat 4x4 jeep will take you to the entrance of the canyon. You will be accompanied by a guide.
After your visit you easily can visit Horseshoebend overlook. It%26#39;s 15-20 minutes to walk from the parkinglot to the rim. Be careful, no fence. Bring a wide angle lens for your photos. The views on meandering Colorado River are breathtaking. You also can take a smooth riverfloat from Glen Canyon Dam which will app. take 5 hours. In march those whitewaterrafts start at 11 am from Glen Canyon dam. I have never rented a boat on Lake Powell so can%26#39;t tell you much about that. You can rent a boat at the new Antelope Point Marina (take the road opposite the Antelope Canyon parkinglot) or at Wah Weap marina at Laker Powell resort which app is 6 miles west of Page off us89.
Happy planning.

Thanks you Tet, this is very helpful!
Are you also a Sedona area expert and can recommend best hiking trails/other activities there?
I%26#39;m sorry. Been to Sedona a couple of times but don%26#39;t know much about hiking there. Maybe put that question on the Sedona forum.
