First trip to Canyon

We%26#39;re thinking about going to the CNP this summer. Will be flying from Houston, TX to area. This will be our first trip, traveling with 2 teenagers. Family is not really into hiking. How do you decide which rim to visit? Hotel suggestions? need one with pool! Suggestions for places to eat? What is best way to travel into Los Vegas? what airport?

Sorry so many questions. Any/All help appreciated!

First trip to Canyon

If you have never been to the Grand Canyon before, then you want to go to GCNP South Rim which has the most amenities. The North Rim has fewer services and lodging. What you may read about as the ';West Rim,'; Grand Canyon West, is not in GCNP.

Do you also want to go to Las Vegas? Then you want to fly there, get a rental car, and drive to GCNP. If Las Vegas is not really a destination, then fly into Phoenix. There%26#39;s only one commercial airport in each of those cities.

Best experience at GCNP is to stay in lodging in the park. Otherwise at Tusayan just outside entrance or Williams 1 hour south. There are no pools at the lodges in GCNP. Some hotels outside the park may have pools.

Once you know your dates, book your lodging. Lodges in the park book as early as a year in advance.
