I am taking an overnight bus tour with ';Grand Canyon Tour Company'; from Las Vegas to the Maswik hotel on Thursday (7th). I didn%26#39;t plan any tours while I%26#39;m going to be there. Can anyone suggest something self guided? Any easy walks or must sees! I have been there before a few years back on the same type of tour, but it was only a day trip and I want to take in everything at my own pace (which is why I%26#39;m coming back!)
Any help would be great! Thank you!
Overnight Stay at the MaswikIt is very easy to do on your own. There is a paved path along the rim that makes a pleasant walk. Just walk from Maswik over to the Bright Angel Lodge and pick up the path there. You can walk east as far as Yavapai Point ( about 1 4/3 miles) and take a free shuttle back if you like. (Or you could continue to Mather Point ans shuttle back from there). Then you can see the rim to the west by another free shuttle, which stops at various points. Get a map of the shuttle route; you will see that you can get of at one stop and walk to the nest to catch another bus.
You could also walk a few hundred yards down the Bright Angel trail, which is wide and easy. Many people go as far aas the first tunnel in the rock; about a 10 or 15-minute walk. Even this short way down into the canyon gives you a completely different perspective.
We like the Kolb Studio (just below the Bright Angel Lodge) alot; there are amazing photos of the Kolb brothers%26#39; exploits in the canyon.
Overnight Stay at the Maswik(That should be 1 3/4 miles, not 1 4/3!)
I justed wanted to say thank you for the thought! The Canyon and the Overnight tour was amazing! We walked everywhere and there was snow all over which made all the pictures we took that much better. Thanks again for the ideas! I will be posting about my trip soon, once I get all the photos together! :)
