Xanterra ';upcharges'; are in

One room was $20 a night increase over ';reserved'; rate and one was $23 over rate.

Wow, I had heard this would happen, but didn%26#39;t realize it would be so much.

Oh well, se la ve (or something like that :0) !)

What hotel was this?

Are you talking about being charged more for a room that you have a confirmed reservation for?

Xanterra tells you that rates may go up when you make the reservation, so the ';confirmed reservation'; price is only for the first night. You pay for one night when you make the reservations; that night will not increase above the rate you paid. If you are staying more than one night, the others may go up.

I believe their rates went up for 2008.

at the moment the rates on the web site are all ****ed up. quotes $486/night for kachina and maswik north for dates in november 2008.

Last year we payed $ 152,-- before tax for a 1 Kingroom with view. For 2008 it%26#39;s $ 172,--. There%26#39;s your $ 20,--.

This was as Thunderbird Lodge.

Thanks. I noticed the disclaimer, but I did not know that this is a regular habit. I booked a Queen cabin at Bright Angel Lodge for May, and it%26#39;s gone up $15 a night. Do they do thid yearly or should I expect another surprise?

I think Xanterra%26#39;s should allow one to at least have the option to pay in full at time of bookng. I would much rather be charged the full amount so I can start paying it off before my actual trip. Of course locking in a lower rate would make me happy too.

One solution would be to book a different place to stay each night, of course who wants to move to a new location everyday? Not a lot one can do when all rooms at Grand Canyon Village is controlled by Xanterra%26#39;s.

How do you know your rate went up? I booked in late Dec and when I log in and look at my reservation, the price is still the same.

This is for an October reservation.

They sent me an email last week.
