Dear Friends:
We are thinking of a family vacation in Bisbee with our 13 year old son and 7 year old daughter. We will also be visiting an old friend while we are there.
The problem is they are very used to Costa Rica and Puerto Vallarta. I certainly understand Bisbee is not Disney!! Will there be enough to do they will hold their interest or will they drive my wife and I crazy??
Maybe, if we could stay at a ranch with horses, might be an option!!
Thoughts???

Bisbee and Children
Hi Barry
While Bisbee is a nice small town there isn%26#39;t a whole lot in the town itself. There are near by attractions if you don%26#39;t mind a drive of an hour or so. There is Kartchner Caverns definately worth a stop.

There is Tombstone nearby. Also check out the old film studios of Old Tucson. There is the Sonoran Desert Museum (i think its called) in tucson worth a visit. Also check out

Also Rocky Point Mexico isn%26#39;t too far away from there maybe 2-3 hrs at the most.
Bisbee and Children
Hi. My wife and I are considering a trip to Arizona the first week in April with our six-year-old son and I am leaning towards renting a cottage in Bisbee for the week, with day trips in the area. I%26#39;m wondering what the results of your trip to Bisbee were and what you think about that idea.
Thanks,
Richard
There is a tour of the Old Bisbee Copper Queen Mine as well as the HIstorical side of the town. If anything take the mine tour particularly with the children in mind.
Bisbee offers Jeep tours of the area and it%26#39;s terrain. I believe you can even sign up for a jeep and take the family out. The highlands are worth reaching and gazing into the valley floors for spectacular views.
Otherwise, considering the tourist trap of Tombstone, AZ --- consider visiting the BirdCage Theater for exploring hauntings and ghosts. Go north on State highway 80.
The visit to Kartchner Caverns would be worth a visit (a living cavern I might add). On State highway 90.
Trips to both Tombstone and/or Benson would require a drive of probably up to an one hour. If you decide not to go into Tucson, then you%26#39;ll want to head back south on highway 90 into Sierra Vista. Consider visiting the Ft. Huachuca Historical Musuem.
thanks very much
We just returned from a couple of days in Bisbee with a 12 yr old, 8 yr old and 6 yr old. We also spent 3 days in Tucson on the same trip.
What we did around Bisbee:
Kartchner Caverns... the kids loved it! We did a tour and checked out the museum and spent about 2 1/2 hrs there. I%26#39;d say it%26#39;s an hour drive from Bisbee. Be sure to make reservations as the tours sell out.
Tombstone: mock gunfights, an interesting museum that used to be the county courthouse. We spent probably 2 hrs there and it%26#39;s a 30min (?) drive from Bisbee.
In Bisbee itself, the Queen Mine tour was well worth doing. The Museum next to the Copper Queen Hotel is very cool with a new (opened in Oct) exhibit done by the Smithsonian! We walked around town - amazing old buildings, some great victorian homes, and after that, we were done! We thought the folks very nice and the restaurants kid friendly.
But based on our experience, I%26#39;d recommend supplementing your time in Bisbee with some time in Tucson. Tucson has a ton of things to do with kids... we loved the Desert Museum! Saguaro Nat%26#39;l Park is also amazing with several smaller hikes perfect for kids.
Any questions for me?
Where did you stay in Bisbee? Any recommendations?
Caroline
We always stay at Mayberry%26#39;s place. Check out inntheoaks.com. The owner, James is AWESOME! This little place is very clean, has a full kitchen and comes with everything you need (even apple juice). You can not find better hospitality! If you need anything, James will help you out. Plus there is a cute little balcony, where you can just hang out and watch the world go by.
If you haven%26#39;t ever been to Bisbee...prepare to fall in love! It is by far the coolest little town in Arizona. Lots of art and friendly faces.
Enjoy!
