Best Tucson resort to stay at?

I will be there March 14-16th, staying 2 nights. We go to Spring Training every year. We stayed last year at Hilt0ons El Conquestador and really liked it even though it was soret of far from the baseball stadium.

Do any of you have any better recommendations for places on that resorts level or above it? We are not looking to spend $$300-$400 per night but we aren%26#39;t loking for a dump either. Just want a nice place to stay with a nice pool and jacuzzi and possibly a good location.

Please help me out. Thanks!

Don%26#39;t know the rates but Starpass is great and not too far from the stadium but a long way from anything else. Since the stadium was located in such a ridiculous ';out of the center of town'; location there are no resorts close by. Otherwise there are lots of hotels near the airport but I don%26#39;t consider them resorts. My favorite is the Arizona Inn--go splurge and enjoy yourselves--not too far from the stadium--close than the Hilton anyway.

Arizona Inn is in the University area, and a unique and terrific place. About 10 minutes to the ball field. Other great resorts (JWM already mentioned): Westward Look, Loew%26#39;s Ventana; each at least 1/2 hour from ball field.

My vote is also for Arizona Inn. Beautiful grounds, great pool, tennis courts, fabulous food and outstanding service.

Thanks for the information guys! The only problem with arizona inn is that its like over $300 per night and that%26#39;s too expensive. I can get El Conquistador for $211.00.

How about Westward Look and Loew%26#39;s Ventana? Are they nice places? If you had a pick of the 2 which one would you go with? We want a place with a nice pool and spa.....

Thanks!

Wow! The hotels in AZ really %26#39;zap%26#39; you folks who go there for Spring Training. We stayed at the Arizona Inn in mid-November, booked their standard room for $219 and were upgraded to a Deluxe room. Also checked the prices at the hotel we stay at in Surprise for NASCAR weekend in November. They have nothing available those dates in March, but the same room that we rent in November for $96 is $159 in March.

Glad my husband prefers car races and is not a baseball fan!

Hotel rates for the better hotels here depend on what the individual hotel defines as ';high season.'; In general rates go up in September/October, and again in January, then back down in April/May.

As for other resorts, Loew%26#39;s Ventana has somewhat better amenities than Westward Look, but is nearly as far from baseball fields as Conquistador. Westward Look is very nice.

I highly recommend the Hacienda del Sol. Beautiful natural setting in the central foothills area north of town Fantastic restaurant - one of the best in the city. It%26#39;s a small quaint resort with beautiful landscaping. You can stay in rooms in the small main building, or get a casita. This would be my first choice. Check their web site http://www.haciendadelsol.com/ for photos.

Nearby Hacienda del Sol is the Westin La Paloma. Of the big mega resorts, I think this is the best. My second mega resort choice would be Loews La Ventana but it%26#39;s farther away. They%26#39;re both sort of comparable to the Hilton El Conquistador.

I haven%26#39;t been to Westward look since 1988. Based on my visit at that time, it%26#39;s a small resort - not like the big ones like the Hilton, Westin, Loews, JW Marriott, etc. It seemed more low key, like it was trying to blend into the desert more naturally, unlike the big mega resorts which are more posh and opulent and have more grandeur. At the time it seemed nice but more on the quiet, boring side. I still preferred the Hacienda del Sol over the Westward Look which seemed more picturesque. But since then I%26#39;m sure it must have undergone a renovation -- no hotel goes 20 years without a renovation -- but hotels usually try to maintain the same character even after a renovation.

Another big fancy resort you might consider is the JW Marriott Starpass:

I have never been there. It%26#39;s in the Tucson mountains west of town.

Our son attends UA. In the last two years we have stayed at the Arizona Inn, the Starr Pass, the University Marriott, and various b and bs.

Our favorite hotel is the Starr Pass - great views, pool, rooms, Tucson Mt. Park hiking right out the door, wonderful breakfast buffet -but the March rates appear to be over $300. A very reasonable and nice b and b in the Sam Hughes/University area is the Sam Hughes Inn www.samhughesinn.com. There%26#39;s no pool, though. The Adobe Rose b and b is in the UA area, also, and has a pool. It looks nice although we%26#39;ve not stayed there.

The University of Arizona website has links to lodgings. We%26#39;re not baseball people so I don%26#39;t know where spring training is held.

Good luck!

Did anybody mention the La Paloma? It used to be really beautiful.

Always hear nice things about the Westward.

I would consider it a ';casual'; atmosphere but

would give it a try. Plus the Gold Room is exceptional and it is close to restaurants , well close for out here.
