Good stop half way between.....

We arrive in Phoenix at 7PM, and plan on an hour collecting our luggage and car rental. We will need to eat dinner, also. We are headed to GCNP, so would like recommendations on a place to stay for the night, maybe a couple hours from Phoenix, towards GCNP. We are coming in early May. We are from MI, so we will be ahead by 2 hours, internal clock-wise, so don%26#39;t want to go too far that night. Thanks for any suggestions.

That would only leave Sedona or Flagstaff. Not much else. Embassy suites are nice in Flagstaff. Also if you are looking for no frills place the INN at NAU is ran by the students includes a hot breakfast for about $80 right on campus and no train noise.

You don%26#39;t say how long your stay in Arizona will be, but if you have the time, %26amp; interest, you might want to take a small detour and stay in Jerome. It%26#39;s an old mining town, once abandoned, that now has a thriving arts community.

They have some great old hotels %26amp; wonderful views across the valley. The drive from Phoenix is pretty straightforward, even for the jet-lagged.

Camp Verde is between Phoenix and Flagstaff with a few motels/hotels. Otherwise Flagstaff would be a great place to stop. Tons of chain motels and close to GC!

Thank you so much for your replies. I think Camp Verde sounds like it may be the place for our one night stop on the way to GCNP. In fact, we may just make reservations for our 2 nights we were going to stay in Sedona, too, since it is only 30 minutes away. I have found the hotels quite expensive in Sedona, and this might be a good alternative. I have not yet checked out a hotel in Sedona called La Vista Hotel, which I believe I read about on Trip dealing with another forum question. Are any of you familiar with this hotel? Thanks again for all of your help. Tyme
