Lodging in South Rim Area

We will be coming in after 2 nights at Springdale Utah area and I think it an approx. 5 hour drive to the SouthRim area. I would like to have information/opinion as to best area to stay in, either Tusuyan, Williams, Flagstaff, etc. and how far of a drive from each area. We will be leaving there and driving west, eventually flying out of Las Vegas.

Thanks

Lodging in South Rim Area

By far the best option would be lodging inside Grand Canyon NP. Check www.grandcanyonlodges.com for available rooms and/or call their number if nothing seems available online.

Next best choice would be Tusayan. I quite liked the Holiday Inn Express, but there%26#39;s others around.

Coming from Zion and visiting sites along the way, you could also spend a night in Cameron (Trading Post) and head up to Grand Canyon early next morning, then maybe spend another night there.

Lodging in South Rim Area

It depends. Staying inside the canyon area is key but if you can%26#39;t afford it then I suggest Tusayan (15 mins) and then Williams or Flagstaff. Flagstaff has more to do. But williams offers a more small town atmosphere. We have tons of good places to eat as well. I do believe its roughly 5 hours from Springdale give or take.

Staying in a certain area depends on your budget, willing ness to drive extra distance and other activities you are looking at doing.

Stay in the park at the South Rim. If you browse TA, most posts recommend it. Xanterra.com still runs the hotels in the South Rim. Prices vary by where you are staying. Go to Xanterra%26#39;s website to see the different accomodations. Do make reservations ASAP though as they fill up fast. You can always change them later.
