How strenous is the hiking into the Antelope Canyon?

I will be traveling to Antelope Canyon in April with several family member. One will be my Mom, who had polio when she was young and as a result has a limp and trouble walking long distances. Will she be able to see much of Antelope Canyon without hiking in too far?

You will be transported up the wash to the slot canyon itself. The hike through the canyon is completely level on sand and is about 1/2 mile round trip (from one end to the other and back again). You are guided at a slow comfortable pace with stops every 10-20 yards for new photo ops. If she tires, she can simply stop and go back to the entrance and wait for the rest of the group to return for the ride back to the parking area.

There are 2 Antelope Canyons. Upper and lower. Forget the lower. The Upper is all flat and not a problem to walk on the sandy floor. In your case I would recommend to take a tour from Page by one of the providers. They pick you up at your hotel and drive you right to the entrance. You also can drive to the parkinglot yourselves and take a tour from there but probably you have to wait a while. Antelope Upper Canyon is on hw98 on your right hand side just a few miles east of Page. You can walk into the Canyon (and back) as far as you like but if you walk all the way it will be a good quarter mile. Try to visit the Canyon midday when the sunbeams reach the canyonfloor.

Have fun.

Right RR! 1/2 a mile roundtrip, 1/4 mile one way.

you will want to do Upper Antelope. It is not strenuous at all. It is only about 1/4 mile in length (but what a fantastic 1/4 mile it is!!!). The floor is sand and level, so should be no problem

Thank you all so much for your input, this is wonderful. Sounds like Upper Antelope will be perfect for my Mom.

I%26#39;ve been reading about the Antelope Canyon tours ... is there any difference in the tour companies? Is the 4WD road in very rough?

The road from the parkinglot to the entrance of Antelope Canyon is bumpy but not that bad. In dry weather you could use your own car but it%26#39;s not permitted to drive your own car. 12 people aboard the Jeeps and no 1st class seats-lol-
