South Rim or West Rim???

My husband and I are taking a trip to Las Vegas in March and want to take a tour to the Grand Canyon. I have been to the West Rim several years ago. I wanted to get any opinions on which view is the best? Do you have recommendations on tour companies? Our first choice was Grand Adventures but he is unavailable for the time of our trip. The thing that really got may attention on that trip was the small group, 3 hours hiking, and viewing the sunset at the GC. Do you know of other tours that would satisfy any of these activities?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!!

South Rim or West Rim???

You are much better off renting a car and driving yourselves to the South Rim----the real Grand Canyon. Spend the night there and return to LV the next day.

I looked at the Grand Adventures website. You would be spending $220 (assuming there are two of you) to spend hours and hours (about 10) on a bus, and 3 hours at the Grand Canyon, walking a perfectly level path along the rim. That%26#39;s the ';guided hike';.

I%26#39;m not sure what a rental car would cost---maybe $100 at most? You can get a budget room at Maswik Lodge, inside the park, most nights in March, for $86. A nicer room would be $142 to $ 162. You could have many hours at the Grand Canyon, including sunset and sunrise, and a pleasant dinner at El Tovar. You could choose your own hikes and visit several viewpoints, and enjoy the canyon in the morning and evening when it is not full of tourists on guided tours.

This would be much, much better than any tour. You can check availablity and prices of rooms inside the park at www.grandcanyonlodges.com

South Rim or West Rim???

Budget rooms for $86 in GCNP? During winter, rates are lower, but March has no such rates available at GCNP lodges.

The ';West Rim'; is part of the Grand Canyon, but it is not part of GCNP. It is on the Hualapai reservation. It is absolutlely not as scenic as GCNP, has few viewpoints, and is 3000 feet lower in elevation.

If you want to see the Grand Canyon, then make the plans necessary to do that. Driving there from Las Vegas is easy, but of course takes time. Can you do it in one day? Sure, but staying overnight provides a better experience.

Pardon my comment about the $86 room. If you are at GCNP at the right time in early March, there are some rooms available at Maswik South for as low as $81/night.

Correct. I picked a random date in March (March 12), and found a Maswik South 2-queen room for $86.
