quaint shops/towns around Scottsdale

We are going to be in Scottdale in a week. I have been there before, but never ventured outside of Scottdale (conferences etc reduced my time to travel).

My husband and I love quaint shops/boutiques and towns. Any suggestions? We don%26#39;t mind driving an hour or so if need be.

Also, any suggestions for good Italian. My husband like%26#39;s the ';traditional'; cuisine. I don%26#39;t remember if that%26#39;s Northern Italy?

thank you

Closest to what you wnat would be the downtown and 5th Ave areas of Scottsdale. scottsdaledowntown.com

In a metro area like Phooenix, which for the most part developed in the last half of the 20th century, there%26#39;s not much in the way of ';quaint.';

Lots of nice shops in Old Town Scottsdale and 5th Ave., and some are quaint. Others... not so much.

There are many good Italian places throughout Phoenix.

Tomaso%26#39;s on 32nd Street and Camelback is a short drive from Scottsdale. Riazzi%26#39;s on south Mill in Tempe is a bit further away, but it%26#39;s good, too.

Cave Creek, about 35 minutes from Scottsdale is a rather interesting town and has many fun little shops--with a western flair.

There is always Uncle Sal%26#39;s on Hayden in Scottsdale. It is in a strip mall, but don%26#39;t let that fool you. Some of the best italian food around.

I highly recommend Pasta Brioni, which is near downtown Scottsdale on Miller south of Camelback. YUMMY food, and the waiters are easy on the eyes. :-) Make a reservation, but the food is not hugely expensive.
