Best time of year to hike Grand Canyon?

Best time of year to hike Grand Canyon?

What kind of hiking do you want to do? From the top all the way to the bottom and back, or just a mile or two down into the canyon?

Temperature varies a lot between the top (elevation around 6800 feet at the South Rim) and the bottom (elevation around 2400 feet). The bottom is pretty warm year-round, and can be very hot in the summer. The top is very hot in the summer and can be cold and snowy in the winter. That leaves spring and fall.

We like the hiking in April, but it is cold in the early morning and evenings, and once we ran into snow. But we don%26#39;t mind the clod and would rather face that than extreme heat. For you, maybe early May or late September would work better.
