Can Monument Valley fit into return trip GC - Phoenix?

Flying to Phoenix next week for conference and then want to see Grand Canyon and Arizona.

Leave Phoenix %26amp; drive Sedonia-Oak Creek Canyon-Flagstaff-to Grand Canyon. Staying overnight in GC. What are roads like this time of year?

Would like to see Cameron Trading Post on return drive back to Phoenix. Staying at airport hotel this night for return flight next day.

Would like to see Monument Valley; however, is it possible to fit this in on return drive and get back to Phoenix at decent time? It looks like a long drive going/coming to Monument Valley; however, the photos look beautiful!

Hi Ellen and welcome to the forum.

It%26#39;s between 2 and 2.5 hours hours to drive from Cameron to the Monument valley visitor center. You can admire the Mittens from there and drive back. Or take a guided Navajo tour from the parkinglot. Count on at least 1.5 hours for it. Or drive the dirtroad into the canyon yourself (your carrentalcy does not allow this) and also take at least 1.5 hour.

So count on a 5 hours detour without a tour.

Roads are probably fine, but snow and ice are always possible at this time of year. It will be cold and likely windy at Monument Valley. My advice would be skip MV and spend your time at GCNP and Sedona. Plenty of scenery there. Too much driving to fit in MV. MV is best appreciated on private tour with Navajo guide, otherwise it%26#39;s just a bunch of tall but spectacular rocks in the distance.

Thanks for your suggestions. Will probably need to see Monument Valley another time .... maybe a canyonlands trip. This is first time to Arizona and I%26#39;m thrilled to be able to take a couple vacation days after the conference to see Grand Canyon for the first time. Sedona area looks beautiful also!
