Family visit in August- start in Phoenix or Las Vegas?

We want to visit the GCNP in late August with two boys ages 11 and 15. Should we start in Las Vegas, visit GC, Bryce %26amp; Zion (Hoover Dam too?) and return to Vegas. Or fly to Phoenix, drive thru Sedona to South Rim? Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

our family 2kids and spouse and myself flew into lv and ended our 12 day grand circle trip back in lv. some highlights- 1. start bryce canyon rubys inn, 2. head for vermillion cliff az, cliff dwellers lodge, 3. north rim gc, and 4. zion national park flannigans inn just outside park entrance. best of all cliff dwellers lodge, a most spectacular as well as desolate place, we loved it and its near page az. check out antelope canyon up there.

How much time do you have? You need 6-7 days to do GCNP, Bryce and Zion, allowing 2 nights at GCNP, and 1 each at the others.

Phoenix in August is hellish, no further south than Sedona and Flagstaff

We are planning 11 days total for the trip. 2 are travel days, leaving 9 for the journey. Also want at least 1 night in Las Vegas, just for fun. Good point about Phoenix in August, so in and out of Las Vegas does sound better.
