Day Hike Ideas

Greetings!

My wife and I will be in the Tucson around Labor Day and would love to do some hiking. We are ';middle aged'; and in moderately good shape, and love hiking in nature seeing beautiful sites and wild life. Any ';must do'; trails in the Tucson? Thanks in advnace! Peace

Day Hike Ideas

Quite a few trails in town, but it will still be too hot to hike in the desert by Labor Day unless you start early. You can do Pima Canyon since it%26#39;s shielded from the sun for most of the morning, but you%26#39;d have to start around 6am. But it may be best to drive into the mountains.

If you head up Catalina Highway into the Santa Catalinas, there are a multitude of trails to do. I%26#39;d recommend Green Mountain, Aspen or Wilderness of Rock.

Conversely, you can also head to the Santa Ritas and hike one of the trails coming from the Madera Canyon recreation site.

Another issue with hiking around Labor Day are the storms. It%26#39;s still usually monsoon season by then, and the lightning storms are excessively dangerous and very quick to start up. And it%26#39;s actually worse in the mountains.

Day Hike Ideas

Personally, this (tucsoncomplete.com/aspen_loop_from_marshall_…) is one of my favorite hikes here in Tucson. Not too mention, you%26#39;ll go through Summerhaven... so when your done you can stop by the cookie shop or one of the little food establishments for a snack and a comfy cozy snack and drink. If you happen to go on another one, feel free to post up info on the hike at http://www.tucsoncomplete.com/hiking (note that the page is not fully populated yet but its growing quickly). Good luck and have fun!!!

I used to love doing Bear Canyon at 7, and walking back to the car in the dusk. Gotta watch for rattlers tho.

Still have the shuttle till ? in Sabino Canyon.?

The shuttle still exists, although its route is still truncated from the %26#39;06 flood damage, but only at the very end of the route.

The full moon hikes at Sabino Canyon are also a lot of fun and very, very pretty, although you have to time it right with the moon so that you%26#39;re not walking in the dark while it%26#39;s behind the eastern ridge.

Sabino Canyon is currently closed again at the water crossings. We%26#39;ve had a pretty excessive amount of rain here this winter, which is, of course, snow in the Catalinas above, which will also drain into Sabino when it melts pretty soon.
