Is hiking close to resorts in Scottsdale?

My hubby and I are planning on going to Arizona end of April. We are going to a time share condo and I want to stay at the Westin Kierland or Marriott in Phoenix/Scottsdale but he wants to be closer to hiking. Does anyone know how close hiking is to these resorts? He is worried we will be in the middle of a ';huge city'; like downtown Phoenix.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I%26#39;m not sure where the Marriott you%26#39;re considering is, but the Westin Kierland is convenient to hiking. Pinnacle Peak trail and Go John trails aren%26#39;t too far (not sure of driving time).

Thanks for the help! By close do you think within a 20 min drive or so or longer?

They should be no more than 20 minutes.

If you can go just a bit farther you might consider McDowell Mountain Regional Park - lots and lots of trails - your vistas are to the east, not the city. You will feel like you%26#39;ve really gotten away! From Kierland it shouldn%26#39;t be more than 25 minutes at most.

Hike early and bring water. It can be warm (not hot!) in April.

Thanks - great tips! That park looks like something we are looking for! It doesn%26#39;t look too far from the Westin Kierland or Marriott Canyon Villas. Might be further from Cibola Vista though. We haven%26#39;t decided which one to stay at yet!

From Kierland...it is about a 10-15 minute drive to the north side of Piestewa...and you can see how many trails are available...you will hit the one at 40th st from your hotel (If Kierland)

These guides should help.

Are the McDowell Mountain Regional Park trails pretty isolated or will there be other people hiking during the week? We%26#39;ll be in Scottsdale in a couple of weeks and I was planning to do a day of hiking nearby, but will be by myself so I don%26#39;t want to be on a trail where no one else is around. Thanks!

The McDowell trails are comfortably busy on the weekends; I couldn%26#39;t tell you about weekdays since I%26#39;ve never been up there then. Piestewa Peak and Camelback Mountain are locate in the middle of the city and are always busy, maybe too busy if you%26#39;re looking for a wilderness experience! The HikeArizona site has lots of info about trails in the area: http://hikearizona.com.
