Maswik South or Yavapai East?

These two types of rooms are avaliable for the dates we want to stay. (Maswik South and Yavapai East).

I know the rooms are nicer at Yavapai East, but Maswik South is closer to the rim? Are the rooms at Yavapai East a lot nicer than Maswik South? Is it worth a drop in room quality to be a bit closer to the rim?

Any opinions appreciated.

Maswik South or Yavapai East?

Maswik might be a wee bit closer, but neither one is in view of the rim. The walk from Yavapai to see the rim is much more pleasant---a path through the woods, past the amphitheater, away from roads, takes you to a quiet spot along the rim trail about midway between the bustling Bright Angel Lodge area and Yavapai Point. From Maswik, by contrast, you walk alongside a road, cross the railroad tracks, and end up right at the Bright Angel Lodge complex.

Maswik South or Yavapai East?

I agree, the walk over from Yavapai takes you to the amphi, where they give the ranger talks at night.

And the grocery too.
